Terri-Lee Weeks named new President and CEO of Tangerine

Here at The Honest Talk, we will never miss an opportunity to celebrate women in leadership, and in this case, we get to do it twice!

Recently, Scotiabank announced Terri-Lee Weeks will be taking over as President and CEO of Tangerine, a fellow national bank and subsidiary of the company.

Weeks joined the Scotiabank family in 2021 as Executive Vice-President, Retail Customer, and brought with her a wealth of experience from her impressive 10-plus years at RBC, where she held various executive roles.

At Scotiabank, Weeks was praised for her unwavering commitment to clients and ability to build brand loyalty and exceptional experiences.

“Terri-Lee is a seasoned leader with deep experience across retail banking, wealth management, and capital markets,” said Aris Bogdaneris, Group Head of Canadian Banking at Scotiabank.

“Her wide-ranging financial services experiences, deep understanding of the Canadian retail landscape, and her track record of success in scaling digital business, interactive customer experience design and transformation uniquely qualify her for this important role on our team. I have every confidence in her ability to deliver on the strong growth potential of our digital bank.”

Celebrating a momentous career

This announcement comes as current Tangerine President and CEO Gillian Riley prepares to retire after an amazing 30-plus years at Scotiabank, including the last six years leading Tangerine.

Reflecting on her career, Riley said it felt like the “right time to pass the torch to a new leader who will continue to build on our track record of success.”

“It has been an honour and a privilege to lead the Tangerine business and, together with the team, I am so proud to have built a market-leading brand in Canada that provides outstanding customer value and mobile capabilities that are best in class,” she added.

Weeks will officially take the reins on November 1, while Riley will transition to a Strategic Advisor role.
